I BOUGHT MY FIRST CAMERA AGED 8. IT WAS A BROWNIE 127 AND I TREASURED EVERY DIMINUTIVE, MONOCHROMATIC FRAME.
BACK THEN, FILM AND PROCESSING WERE EXPENSIVE SO DEVOTING EXTRA CARE TO EACH IMAGE WAS SACROSANCT.
DISCIPLINES I LEARNED THEN ARE WITH ME TODAY THOUGH THE ARRIVAL OF DIGITAL COMMITTED SOME OF THOSE PRECEPTS TO THE DARKROOM BIN.

 

MY CHILDHOOD LOVE OF IMAGERY LED ME DIRECTLY TO THE FILM PRODUCTION INDUSTRY. WHILST KNOCKING ON DOORS, I TOILED IN MOTORWAY CONSTRUCTION, ERECTED SOME STEEL, PLOUGHED FIELDS, HARVESTED CORN, MILKED & ARTIFICIALLY INSEMINATED COWS, CASTRATED SHEEP, RESTORED CEILINGS, TOILED IN A CHICKEN FACTORY AND MANY OTHER UNDERTAKINGS. I FINALLY GOT FOOT IN SAID DOOR. BECAME A RUNNER, PA, PRODUCTION MANAGER, AND ULTIMATELY PRODUCER. I MADE ALMOST EVERY FORMAT OF AUDIO/VISUAL CONTENT INCLUDING CINEMA RELEASES, TV TRANSMISSIONS, TV AND CINEMA COMMERCIALS, DOCUMENTARIES, VIRALS AND MUSIC VIDEOS, WINNING AWARDS AT CANNES, VENICE, LONDON (BAFTA/D&AD/ARROWS ETC), CHICAGO AND MANY OTHER FESTIVALS.
 

COLLABORATING IN COMMERCIALS WITH RENOWNED PHOTOGRAPHERS BARNEY EDWARDS, BRIAN GRIFFIN, JOHN SWANNELL AND JOHN CLARIDGE NOT TO MENTION IMAGE CONSCIOUS DIRECTORS LIKE NIC ROEG, HAROLD BECKER, MIKE SERENSIN AND LEAR LEVIN, SUSTAINED MY INTEREST IN PHOTOGRAPHY. TWO SUCCESSFUL ONE-MAN EXHIBITIONS, WORK EXHIBITED IN THE ROYAL WEST OF ENGLAND ACADEMY, CHELSEA ARTS CLUB, A SERIES OF PROFILES ON LEADING LIGHTS OF THE INDUSTRY AND MEMBERSHIP OF THE PHOTOGRAPHER’S COLLECTIVE - LENSMODERN - HAVE BEEN SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS.
 

THAT’S ALL BEHIND ME. NOW PHOTOGRAPHY IS MY PRINCIPAL CREATIVE PURSUIT. AT THE HEART OF IT ALL, THE WISH TO TELL A STORY, THE SEARCH FOR THE MYSTERIOUS, THE URGE TO SATISFY (IF THAT WERE EVEN POSSIBLE!) AN ENDURING SENSE OF CURIOSITY AND THE INTERMINABLE PURSUIT OF THE PERFECT IMAGE.
